Investment Markets Overview – w/e 16 Nov 2012

Further evidence of politicians being out of touch emerged this week, this time by EU parliamentarian Jorgo Chatzimarkakis and French PM Hollande. The former, a German politician of Greek decent, is pushing for a European “Marshall Plan,” for Greece, saying that the German tax-payer should pick up the lion’s share as “Germany has benefited by Euro 80BN from the Greek crisis,” citing the historically low German bond yield as evidence. Meanwhile, newly appointed Francois, already suffering an approval rating below 40, inferred that the huge fall in French bond yields since his appointment was a sign that his “coherent” road map for boosting the French and European economies are on track. Neither seems to realise that bond yields have collapsed due to a “flight to the perceived quality,” of Sovereign debt as economies implode, albeit that the myth of, “lender of last resort,” has yet to be fully exposed.
