Investment Markets Overview – W/E 20th June 2014

As a two-day “Peace Forum” opens in China this weekend, the West naval gazes over the mess they have left in both Iraq and Afghanistan, where the former has been slipping ever closer to an all out civil war and the latter votes, within an increasingly violent backdrop, for a successor to President Hamid Karzai, the former Oil-man selected by the western-alliance immediately following it’s ill thought-out invasion. In fact, “ill thought-out” may not be an accurate statement, as the closer one follows the blame-game developing since the invasion of both countries, the more the facts confirm that both tragedies’ were all about oil, dressed up over western security concerns and/or replacing regimes with “democracy.” Aside of the appalling conditions in which these respective societies are enduring, citizens in the west are slowly waking up to increased authoritarianism within their own societies, scepticism towards their institutions and, surprise, surprise, rising energy costs.
