Commodity giant Glencore PLC took a 30% hit on Monday on fresh worries about the company’s debt as global trade slows, led by China, whilst liquidity concerns and falling US earnings placed a question mark over American corporate ability to service the increased debt levels acquired to enable share-buybacks. The “proverbial straw” for the week were the disappointing non-farm payrolls announced on Friday, which saw a net fall of 59,000 private sector jobs over a two-month period and concerns over average wages.
