Investment Markets Overview — W/E 30th September 2016

$US10, 000,000,000,000…..has been added to America’s federal debt over the 8-years that Obama has been President, having taken 230-years to accumulate the first $10 trillion. This is patently unsustainable and the politicians’ know it, as does the herd, or at least a growing number of them do. As with the central bankers’, do not expect any pro-active policy change from politicians’, as it’s not the nature of the beast, neither wakes up one morning intending to change tack and offer apologies for policy error, it’s the collective social mood that demands the change with policy-makers re-acting to it. So instead of watching every sentence ushered from a central banker’s mouth or from the presidential contenders as they enter the acrimonious final furlong, watch the market tape, as it’s telling, whichever the asset class chosen. We touch on some observations from this week as you read on.

It was another volatile week for the markets, buffeted by the second – guessing within the developing German banking crisis, OPEC and the resulting surging Oil price and some pre-crisis revisits in respect of stocks, bonds, real-estate and alternatives. Enjoy:
